I’ve been living in Cumby for 2 years now so it’s safe to say I’m a local. Whether it’s riding your bike through the lush forest or hiking through the woods, or doing yoga at Comox Beach, getting out in nature is extremely important and the one thing that disrupts that is the sounds of gunshots from across the lake. I’ve never shot a gun before but I have shot a bone-arrow in elementary school so I understand the thrill of shooting something but can we not move the gun range somewhere else? Or maybe the gun members can pay to put a soundproof dome over the entire range?

The other day I hiked up to meditation rock, above the lake for my 1pm meditation session and the guns were so loud I couldn’t even clear my mind. Don’t even get me started on how important it is to have the quiet space and time to clear your mind outside especially during this pandemic when everyone is locked up. There has been at least 4 studies proving that people who meditate outside have higher levels of vitamin D which is good.

Simply I just feel that having a gun range on the edge of a beautiful lake doesn’t make sense. People don’t go to the gun range to take in the view so why punish the people who are simply going outside to enjoy the great outdoors. One simply solution is to move the gun range to the city. No one in the city would even notice the gun shots over the traffic. Or maybe move it to a field out in the middle of nowhere or like I said at the start, I’m sure the gun owners would be happy to pay to put in a soundproof dome over the entire gun range. This would be good too so they can shoot in comfort in the winter and avoid the rain and cold. Again, I’ve never shot a gun in the cold but I have fixed my bike in the cold and that’s next level hard. The dome would also make the guns sound more powerful which would add to the experience when shooting.

I’m not an unreasonable person, I’m willing to come to a happy medium too. If we really can’t move it or put a dome over it I can move my meditation practice to 2pm if they can close the shooting range from 2pm-5pm in the winter. In the summer since everyone wants to be outside at the beach it would be great to have the gun range closed from 3pm-11pm. Maybe they can transition it to a nighttime gun range? Open from 1am-4am?

Yes, it's got a charming historic downtown, picturesque mountains, and all the fresh air a person could want. But let me tell you, the novelty of charming streets and mountain vistas quickly wears off when you realize just how many inconveniences this place can throw your way.

First and foremost, let's talk about the trendy mountain bikers. Oh, Cumby, what have you done to attract these two-wheeled daredevils? It's like the entire population has been replaced by a never-ending stream of Lycra-clad, gear-obsessed enthusiasts who think they own the place. They zoom down the streets on their expensive bikes, making the rest of us pedestrians feel like we're strolling through a racetrack rather than a peaceful village.

And let's not forget the nightlife—or lack thereof. Cumby's idea of a wild Friday night is a game of bingo at the community center followed by an early bedtime. If you dare to crave a bit of excitement, you'll have to drive to the neighboring town, where you might find a mildly interesting happening or two. Or, you know, just stay in and reorganize your sock drawer. Fun, right?

Then there's the issue of "community spirit." People here are all too eager to volunteer for committees, organize events, and have a friendly chat over the picket fence. Frankly, I'm tired of all this neighborliness. I'd rather be left alone in peace, but alas, that's just not how things work in this tight-knit community.

Now, don't get me started on the wildlife. Sure, it's great to be close to nature, but when your morning routine involves shooing bears away from your trash cans and negotiating with raccoons for your garden veggies, you start to question your life choices.

In conclusion, living in Cumby is an exercise in frustration, a daily battle against the forces of gentrification and neighborliness. But hey, at least we've got those picturesque mountains to look at while we grumble about it all. So, if you ever find yourself considering a move to this charming village, my advice is simple: don't. Save yourself the trouble and head for a place with fewer bikers and more late-night burger joints. Your sanity will thank you.

and it felt like the smell of poop was following me everywhere. Sure enough, I had stepped on someone else's dog poop… I for one own three dogs, and when they poop I make SURE that i'm watching them, and although I don't always the ability to carry it out, I always make sure to put it in a poo bag (The city provides these to us 

The plastic these poo bags are made of is 

, it may take 20 years but surely it will eventually turn into soil. I would much prefer poo bags everywhere than having to deal with the smell of a dogs feces on my foot.

We need to consider the fact that we're not the only people using these trails, there are other people, other dogs, other animals, all of whom don't want to step in poop. Be kind, be aware, be vigilant, and bag up that poop.

Why don't we have sidewalks on camp road? Have you seen how fast everybody seems to drive down there?

Personally I don't drive, but if I did I'd definitely appreciate sidewalks so that we could keep pedestrians safe.

There was recently a study done about how many people are injured from walking, and it actually did show a 

 majority of the people injured where not walking on sidewalks.

I'll keep this post short because I know you're all pretty busy with this new lockdown but I just wanted to start a little bit of commotion and get the movement for sidewalks on camp road rolling!
